My Dad the Smedley Rep
joanne hall on 31 July 2009
My dad was a John Smedley rep (Mr Richard Hall) for all my childhood and into my adulthood, he just retired about 5 yrs ago.
For as long as I can remember I loved him doing this job, I used to like to help him unpack the new range, I was even given the card that came with the packaging for drawing on as a small child, the softness of the garments the bright colour, I was fascinated with the fine weave and designs, the company cars that smelt so new as he went to matlock to pick them up, Frank Womby at the factory always had sweeties in his draw when I visited with dad. Becoming a teenager I had the best school jumpers that everyone admired instead of those standard scratchy ones, I used to love going on his rounds around scotland with him in my school holidays, meeting everyone.
Later as I became an adult, I got more into the fashion side, and was always so lucky to have the latest choice of the new range, I still wear them and forever faithful.

Hi Joanne,
How nice to hear about your memories of your Dad’s work. I worked with him as head of design here at John Smedley and I am now back as Creative Director. We often have conversations about your Dad and his success with some of the best fashion accounts north of the border and his love of dogs!
Please wish him well from me and all of us at John Smedley.
Best regards,
Dawne.
