My Favourite Shirt

How one feels about a favourite shirt is a relationship touched by alchemy; for years my favourite shirt was a dark chocolate sea island cotton Smedley polo - I don’t remember where I bought it or when, it seemed to have been with me forever, and I wore it a lot - initially for those big nights out, then gradually for daywear, then eventually even to work, where it gradually began to succumb and develop holes (remember, it was about 20years old by this time!)

I began to fear that I might have to accept the inevitable, when I saw a brand new dark chocolate Smedley in Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh - in seconds I was at the till - “Do you want to try it on?” No need, the quality and style don’t change - my new (and current…)favourite shirt.
