My several greats-grandfather William Smedley was John’s brother. My father is John Smedley which causes some comfusion when he pays for goods in the mill shop! My brother Peter has the first name of Andrew (Smedley!) which has also caused confusion! At least we don’t have to name my father’s knitwear as it already has his name in it! And I would agree with all the other correspondents - nothing beats a Smedley!
